Scouting Reports- WR

A-H / I-P / Q-Z

Aldrick Robinson                                                                                                                                  SMU

Undersized WR who has good quickness.  Has decent speed but not elite.  Gets up to speed quickly.  Was the team's go to guy.  Is very similar to former teammate Emmanuel Sanders.  Has good hands and can make the difficult catch.  Will catch the ball over the middle of the field.  Lacks size but gives good effort blocking.  Needs to do a better job putting the ball away.  Could develop into a decent slot player.

Armand Robinson                                                                                                                      Miami (OH)

Has gotten bigger and now has decent size.  Is not overly explosive but has decent speed.  Catches the ball well but doesn't always catch it with his hands.  Is not real shifty in the open field but gets some yards after catch because he turns the ball upfield quickly.  Had some games where he made little impact and had some really big games.  Typically was the team's go to guy.  Does a decent job sifting through traffic over the middle of the field against zone coverage.  Might lack separation skills against man to man coverage.  Looks like a decent slot guy if he can learn to be more consistent.

Jeremy Ross                                                                                                                                  California

Really explosive return guy.  Doesn't have great height but has decent bulk.  Has a good burst and speed.  Can get downfield in a hurry.  Likes to hurdle defenders.  Doesn't contribute a lot on offense.  When he does, he shows the ability to separate.  Has great athletic ability, the only question in his game is his hands.  He will drop punts, kicks and passes and he will fumble the ball.  Has the athleticism to play in the NFL but will he protect the ball and develop as a WR.

Greg Salas                                                                                                                                          Hawaii

Has good size.  Has long been his team's go to guy.  Catches a ton of balls and catches them with his hands.  Has good hands and toughness.  Makes a living over the middle and will catch the ball while taking a hit.  Has good change of direction and quickness for a player his size.  Doesn't have elite speed.  Is strong and will break some tackles and shows a little shiftiness.  Is a good blocker.  Really good player who can be a solid possession receiver and develop into a good #2.

DeMarco Sampson                                                                                                                  San Diego St

Has decent size and has good quickness.  Has good feet and can stop on a dime.  Hands catcher who is willing to catch the ball over the middle.  Gets some yards after catch because he has a little make you miss ability.  Will compete for the ball.  Lacks speed and doesn't always do a good job of protecting the ball.  Missed two season due to torn ligaments in his toes.  Is a little underrated.  Probably won't get drafted but is the type of player who might stick as an extra WR.

Jock Sanders                                                                                                                           West Virginia

Extremely small receiver who has good speed and quickness.  Had a really good career.  Is hard to tackle in the open field because he is so shifty.  Has really good feet and quickness.  Is tough and physical.  Is a willing blocker despite his lack of size.  His size is a huge issue going forward.  He is really hard to find downfield.  Most everything in college was handoffs and underneath stuff.  Is tough but doesn't have a lot of bulk so he might have durability concerns but he has been durable through college.  Might not be able to hold up as a punt returner.  Didn't ease any of these concerns at the Senior Bowl.  Really good college player who might be too small for the NFL.

Dane Sanzenbacher                                                                                                                           Ohio St

Undersized receiver who really caught the ball better this past season.  Has good athleticism and can make the difficult catch.  Is a good route runner and shows some quickness.  Stays active throughout the play and gets open.  Shows toughness over the middle.  Doesn't have great speed but will come up with a long catch from time to time.  Seems to always come up with the big play.  Really looks like a slot player.  Needs to add strength and put on bulk.  Is frail and might not be able to withstand the pounding over the middle he will take on the next level.  Can also get pushed off routes by physical DBs.  Makes a lot of sense late in the draft.

Lito Senatus                                                                                                                         Western Illinois

Has good size and decent athletic ability.  Has average speed and quickness.  Catches the ball really well.  More or less dominated his level of competition.  Will catch the ball over the middle.  Gives good effort blocking but isn't real good at it.  Developmental prospect who could develop into a good possession receiver.

Cecil Shorts III                                                                                                                        Mount Union

Has marginal size but good speed.  Absolutely dominated his level of competition.  Was a man amongst boys.  Was much faster than the competition.  Will be making a huge jump in competition but has athleticism that translates to the next level.  Has good quickness and has some make you miss ability in the open field.  Has decent hands but gets lackadaisical in his play.  Will double catch some balls and doesn't always high point the ball.  Both things he can get away with on his level but not on the next level.  Lacks some bulk and might struggle some with physical defenders on the next level.  Doesn't show much in the way of blocking.  Was a good return guy and could get a look there.  Good developmental player who has the ability to contribute on the next level.

Cortez Smith                                                                                                                                       Purdue

Has decent height but is skinny.  Lacks explosiveness and really struggles to create separation.  Attacks the ball and comes back to the QB.  Has inconsistent hands.  Doesn't have good speed.  Gives good effort blocking but isn't very good at it.  Was arrested in February for punching a man in the face outside of bar.  Decent college player who lacks the ability for the next level.

Courtney Smith                                                                                                                     South Alabama

Big, with good height.  Is strong and dominated his level of competition.  Does a good job of keeping his body between the ball and the defender.  Has decent speed and shiftiness for his size.  Uses his strength to get separation.  Has long arms.  Doesn't have great speed and doesn't get much after the catch.  Is making a big jump in competition and will find it more difficult to get separation.  Is a little inconsistent catching the ball.  Good developmental type who will need some time.

Keith Smith                                                                                                                                         Purdue

Has good size and was the team's go to guy.  Catches the ball well and makes things happen when the ball is in his hands.  Doesn't always protect the ball well.  Does a good job finding holes in the zone.  Is really good catching the ball over the middle of the field.  Is a good blocker.  Really looked good at beginning of the year and seemed like he was developing into a solid pro prospect.  Suffered a torn ACL and MCL.  To date he has not been able to work out for scouts.

Torrey Smith                                                                                                                                  Maryland

Has good size and really good speed.  Has good acceleration and can get behind the defense.  Tracks the ball well and can make some difficult catches.  Hands are a little inconsistent but not horrible.  Ran a lot of straight routes that didn't require getting in and out of breaks.  Will need development in route running.  Has some strength and is physical to get some separation.  Gives decent effort blocking but isn't good at it yet.  Gets the ball upfield quickly and has some make you miss ability in the open field.  Is a threat to take it the distance from anywhere.  Is a good return guy and can contribute on coverage teams.  High character person.  Is a little raw and will need some time but could develop into a really good starting WR.

Shaky Smithson                                                                                                                                     Utah

Built like a RB.  Is thick and strong in the lower body.  Can be hard to bring down.  Has marginal speed and quickness.  Often lined up in the backfield and in the wildcat.  Can throw the ball.  Hands are a little inconsistent.  Has some drops and fumbles.  Decent job as a punt and kick returner.

Owen Spencer                                                                                                                   North Carolina St

Has decent size.  Has really good hands.  Has decent athleticism.  Good quickness in and out of breaks and can get some separation.  Lacks great speed.  Runs pretty good routes.  Good possession type receiver.

Markeith Summers                                                                                                                     Mississippi

Has good size.  Has decent athletic ability and speed.  Inconsistent performer.  Really inconsistent hands.  Doesn't get a lot of separation.  Will go up at get the ball.  Had some games where he just wasn't good at all.  In the LSU game he had good long TD to put his team up late in the game but he dove into the endzone which drew a penalty which gave LSU the short field to kick the game winning field goal.  This play is a microcosm of his play, some good some bad.

Kerry Taylor                                                                                                                                 Arizona St

Has marginal size.  Uncle is former 49er John Taylor.  Has good quickness and runs good routes.  Catches the ball well.  Doesn't have breakaway speed.  Isn't overly big and can get pushed off routes and struggles to block despite good effort.  Looks like an extra WR but also doesn't offer a whole lot on special teams.

Terrence Toliver                                                                                                                                    LSU

Has good size and looks the part.  Has good athletic ability and strength.  Has good speed and a little shiftiness.  Has the ability to dominate but is really inconsistent.  Will make a great catch from time to time but drops way too many passes.  Really seems to lack concentration.  Doesn't always give good effort going after the ball and might lack a competitive spirit.  Has good size but isn't a good blocker.  Was arrested in March of last year for interfering with a police office after a fight outside of a bar.  Reportedly had to Taser him twice to subdue him.  Boom or bust type who has the physical ability to be a starter but might struggle to get on the field.

Terrance Turner                                                                                                                                Indiana

Has good size.  Shows good toughness and concentration over the middle of the field.  Catches the ball well.  Isn't overly athletic.  Lacks speed and only has decent quickness.  Doesn't get much after the catch.  More of a possession type receiver.

Raymond Webber                                                                                                       Arkansas- Pine Bluff

Has good size.  Small school player who was his team's go to guy.  Dominated his level of competition.  Was bigger and stronger than competition.  Lacks some explosiveness but has decent speed.  Is not real quick in and out of his breaks.  Catches the ball well.  Is a good target downfield.  Decent developmental type.

Ryan Whalen                                                                                                                                   Stanford

Has decent size and quickness.  Doesn't have elite speed but does a good job changing up his speed which is why he is able to get behind the defense.  Catches the ball well and does a decent job getting open.  Could get a look as a slot guy.  Missed three games this past season with an elbow injury.

Jarvis Williams                                                                                                                 North Carolina St

Has good size and is a good possession receiver.  Is physical and has good hands.  Goes after the ball and fights for it.  Does a good job adjusting to the ball.  Doesn't have great speed or quickness but make a lot of catches.  In addition to being a good possession receiver, he could be a good redzone threat.  Missed almost all of 2006 season due to back issues.

Marshall Williams                                                                                                                    Wake Forest

Undersized guy with good quickness.  Jumped onto the scene with a productive 2009.  Regressed some this past year and wasn't as productive.  Was dealing with a dislocated pinky though.  Doesn't have overly natural hands and will bobble or drop some passes.  Really lacks bulk and can get pushed off routes and isn't much of a blocker.  Has some ability but needs to revert back to his 2009 form to have a chance.

Jimmy Young                                                                                                                                          TCU

Has good size.  Has some athletic ability but not elite.  Really struggles to get separation.  Doesn't get much after the catch.  Is inconsistent catching the ball.  Good college player who might not be special enough for the next level.

Titus Young                                                                                                                                      Boise St

Undersized receiver who is really explosive.  Has good speed and can get behind the defense.  Is really shifty.  Quick in and out of his breaks.  Has the ability to stop on a dime at full speed.  Gets up to speed really quickly.  Is able to create good separation.  Shows good toughness and will catch the ball over the middle and take a hit.  Is undersized but doesn't play like it, using his body to shield defenders.  Also shows good strength.  Has good shiftiness in the open field and is also a threat to take it the distance.  Does a decent job as a return guy.  Doesn't always catch the ball with his hands and will drop some.  Was suspended for nine games in 2008 for breaking unspecified team rules.  So that will need to be looked into.  Could be a dynamic complementary player who should hear his name called in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Terrell Zachery                                                                                                                                  Auburn

Has good size and speed.  Has some long TD catches and reverses.  Not a lot of shiftiness.  Didn't run an NFL tree and will need route running work.  Is a good blocker.  Developmental type who could get a look as an undrafted free agent.

Graham Zug                                                                                                                                       Penn St

Has decent size.  Never developed into the player everyone thought.  Is really inconsistent.  Doesn't have consistent hands.  Doesn't always get good separation.  Has some ability but might not get a shot because there hasn't been signs of development.
