Scouting Reports- WR Darvin Adams Auburn Has good height and long arms. Doesn't have great speed but has decent speed. At times was the go to guy. Finds the holes in the zone. Doesn't always get good separation. Is not real fluid and at times will stumble out of breaks. Hands aren't overly natural but he generally catches the ball when he concentrates. Has the ability to go up and get the ball but he doesn't always attack the ball and can be pretty lackadaisical at times, which results in some drops. Gives good effort blocking but struggles because he really lacks strength. With his lack of strength he might struggle to release off the line of scrimmage against press coverage. I was really surprised he declared for the draft but he has the ability to be a #3 or maybe even a #2 but really needs to play with more effort and concentration in addition to getting stronger. Kris Adams UTEP Has good size. Was their go to guy. Has average speed and doesn't get a lot of separation. Will go get the ball and catches it well. Marcus Allen New Mexico St Lacks size but was the team's go to guy. Has decent speed and acceleration. Catches the ball alright. Perry Baker Fairmont St Younger brother of Dallas Baker. Really lacks bulk. Is skinny everywhere. Doesn't have great speed but has good quickness. Making a big jump in competition but catches the ball ok. Also is a good special teams coverage man. Will likely get a chance as an undrafted guy but will struggle due to his lack of size and speed. Doug Baldwin Stanford Undersized receiver who stepped in when Ryan Whalen was hurt and had a good year. Doesn't have great speed but has good quickness. Finds the holes in the zone. Catches the ball well. Doesn't look like much of a prospect but was really productive. Jon Baldwin Pittsburgh Has really good size and has good athleticism. Good coordination and can track the ball. Can make the sensational catch. Big and strong. Has decent speed. Has a little Randy Moss about him- big receiver who can be a downfield threat but also seems to live by the motto: I will play when I want to play. At times looks like he can be a really good starter but he often plays with no effort or competitive spirit. He often fails to compete for the ball and will allow the defender to intercept it, not even giving an effort to knock the ball away. Will be very lackadaisical in his route running and blocking. Has good hands but will double catch some due to lackadaisical effort and concentration. At times will struggle to get off the line of scrimmage because of this attitude. Doesn't often high point the ball. This is the majority of his play but he has the ability to excel in these areas. He has good size and strength for blocking. He has the ability to high point the ball and come down with catches. The question is whether he will work hard and play with effort on the next level. If he doesn't, he won't last long. Has had some off the field concerns. Was charged with indecent assault, harassment and disorderly conduct in 2009 for an incident with a female student on a campus shuttle bus. Your prototypical boom or bust pick. Marcus Barnett Cincinnati Stepped up when Vidal Hazelton went out with injury and became more productive as the season wore on. Lacks bulk and only has average quickness. Lacks speed. Finds holes in the zone and catches the ball well. Competes for the ball. Probably lacks the ability needed for the next level but was productive enough that he might get a look. Armon Binns Cincinnati Has real good size. Didn't take his game to the elite level this past year like anticipated. Long strider who sees a lot of jump balls. Has the ability to position his body and attack the ball but doesn't do it on a consistent basis. At times fails to come away with the catch despite a big height advantage. Is not a real good route runner and at times seems like he lacks awareness about where he is on the field. Was inconsistent catching the ball this past season. Is a decent blocker. He has good size and athleticism and you catch glimpses of NFL ability but it isn't consistent. Little bit of a boom or bust type who would make sense in the mid to late rounds. Dontavia Bogan South Florida Is undersized and doesn't have great speed. Catches the ball well and gets some yards after the catch. Is tough and strong. Despite his lack of size he can be difficult to bring down. He also does a good job as a blocker. Has some experience as a kick returner. Isn't overly special but has been really productive. Could get a look as a #4 if he can contribute on special teams. Bo Bowling Oklahoma St Exploded on the scene when Justin Blackmon went out with a suspension. Short receiver with good quickness. Caught the ball well and shows a little make you miss ability. Is tough. Despite size, he gives good effort blocking. Is a marginal prospect but might get an opportunity to compete for a backup role. He will have to ease character concerns. In 2009 was arrested drug possession with the intent to distribute amongst other charges. DeAndre Brown Southern Miss Tall receiver who had a great freshman season. Has been less productive each season which is why it was such a surprise that he entered the draft early. Has good speed and can be a good downfield threat. Can go up and get the ball. Can be a good redzone target. Looked like he was going to be an elite prospect his freshman year, then suffered horrific broken leg and hasn't gotten back to that level. Doesn't play with a sense of urgency. Doesn't sell pass on run plays and doesn't run hard when the ball isn't coming to him. Has faced a lot of criticism for his work ethic. Leg is still an issue, he missed seven games this past season with a lower leg strain. Has athletic ability and could develop into a starter if he can return to his previous form. Will need to play with good effort and work hard to get better in order to make it. Boom or bust. Vincent Brown San Diego St Doesn't have great size but has decent size. Lacks great speed. Has good body control and is good in and out of breaks. Runs good routes and turns a lot of defenders around. Has good soft hands but they may not be all that strong because he will sometimes struggle to hold on to a contested catch. Finds the holes in the zone and gives a good effort in blocking. Tore ligaments in his thumb in 2009 but doesn't seem to be hampered by that. Possession type receiver who might be a good value because he could slide in the draft due to lack of speed. Kodi Burns Auburn Former QB who has good size. Doesn't get a lot of separation and has inconsistent hands. Is a really good blocker. Stephen Burton West Texas A&M Has good size and good athleticism. Dominated his level of competition. Has good strength and is effective in short to intermediate areas. Doesn't get a lot after the catch. Will be making a big jump in competition. Is a little inconsistent catching the ball. Good developmental type. Adrian Cannon Maryland Has good size. Doesn't have great speed and struggles a little to get separation. Is more of a possession type receiver. Is physical and strong. He will break some tackles and is a good blocker L.J. Castille Delta St Has decent size. Catches the ball well and will go after it. Can get deep because he has decent speed. Will be making a big jump in competition but performed well at the Cactus Bowl and had some success at Houston before he transferred. Decent developmental prospect. John Chiles Texas Has good size and athletic ability. Has good feet and can get yards after the catch because he has a little make you miss ability. Has some ability but has the propensity to completely disappear. Didn't step up when his team needed someone to. Will flash NFL ability but needs to play to that level consistently. Curtis Clay TCU Is a little undersized with good speed. Was no better than the fourth option in the TCU passing game. Doesn't always look natural at WR. Contributes on special teams on coverage teams and has some return experience. James Cleveland Houston Has decent size. Lacks speed and struggles to get separation. Good possession type receiver who has really soft hands and does a good job finding the holes in the zone. Will need route running work because he doesn't have experience running NFL routes and was a little lazy with the routes he did run. Will catch the ball over the middle and did a good job coming through in the clutch. Gives good effort blocking. Really limited athlete who has a chance as a possession receiver. Started his career at Iowa but was dismissed after pleading guilty to two counts of unlawful possession of prescription drugs. Randall Cobb Kentucky Undersized receiver who is a tremendous athlete. Has a really great burst. Has good speed and vision when running with the ball. Was comfortable in the wildcat and could get a look at RB but with his size teams may elect to keep him outside more. Needs to improve route running. The majority of his touches were behind, at or within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. Is tough and has good make you miss ability. Has good quickness and cutting ability. Is a dynamic punt returner. Is a weapon that you can move around and use a number of ways. Similar to Devin Hester in that he is always a threat to take it the distance. Travis Cobb Arizona Undersized guy who has good speed. Is a good kick return guy. Has inconsistent hands and was never able to carve out a role in the passing game. Most likely won't get an opportunity but someone might be intrigued by his speed. Landon Cox Northern Illinois Has good size and decent athleticism. Has good hands but doesn't always make the difficult catch. Is a good blocker and has good strength. Didn't completely dominate on a week to week basis like anticipated. I thought he could dominate this level of competition but instead of a great year he had a decent year. Is decent but not great at everything. Could get a look but will need to elevate his play to make it. D.J. Davis Oregon Big, physical receiver. Is a really good blocker. Catches the ball well but doesn't get anything after the catch. Lacks speed and quickness and is solely a possession type receiver. Might lack the athleticism needed for the next level but could still get a look. Mark Dell Michigan St Has good size and catches the ball well. Runs really good routes. Has a good release and is quick in and out of his breaks, creating good separation. Comes back to the ball and catches the ball with his hands. Lacks breakaway speed and doesn't show a lot of make you miss ability in the open field. Looks like a good #2 or possession type receiver. Hasn't missed much time but has dealt with knee and shoulder injuries. Also missed the bowl game two years ago due to suspension because of his involvement in an on-campus fight. Is a solid receiver who would make a lot of sense in the latter rounds. Tandon Doss Indiana Has good sized and athleticism. Has really good hands and can be the go-to guy. Makes all the catches and isn't afraid to go over the middle. Has decent speed. Gets yards after the catch. Solid player who has the talent to be a starter on the next level. Has injury concerns. Missed four games in 2008 due to shoulder and knee injuries. Played this past season through a groin injury and had surgery on both after the season. Hasn't really been 100% working out for scouts. Is a little underrated and could end up being good value if he slides some due to his inability to completely work out for scouts. Kris Durham Georgia Has good size and decent speed. Struggles to get separation against man to man coverage but does a decent job finding holes in the zone. Catches the ball well and is a good blocker. Looks like a potential possession type receiver. Greg Ellingson Florida International Has good height and decent speed. Doesn't seem to have elite speed but can get deep and has a number of long TD catches. Catches the ball well with his hands. Does a good job shielding the defender from the ball. Is a good blocker. Is a little underrated and could be a good developmental prospect. Jarred Fayson Illinois Physical receiver who has good size. Transferred from Florida. Catches the ball well and is good over the middle. Doesn't get much after the catch. Doesn't have deep speed. Is a physical, possession type receiver. Gives good effort blocking. Frantrell Forrest UAB Has marginal size and lacks speed but is often open. Catches the ball well and does a really good job adjusting to the ball in the air. Edmund Gates Abilene Christian Small school player who is a big play guy. Has great speed and can take it the distance. Lacks great size. Will be making a big jump in competition. Might struggle with more physical DBs. Majority of his routes were outside and will need to prove that he can come across the middle. Is older. Was a basketball player at Tyler JC but was dismissed for some reason. Has special ability but is raw and older. David Gilreath Wisconsin Undersized guy who is a great return guy. Has good explosiveness. Has quick feet and good vision in the open field and is always a threat to take it the distance. Is solid as both a kickoff returner and a punt returner. In the passing game he is mostly a threat on screens and reverses. He doesn't make many catches downfield. Due to his size he is an injury concern and has had some injuries over the coarse of his career. Return specialist who is worth bringing to camp. A.J. Green Georgia Really elite player. Has great height and size. Runs well and has long arms. Has really good acceleration for a guy his size. Is really fluid and has great change of direction. Is able to create separation and is able to get behind the defense. Has really good body control. Uses his body really well to shield the defender from the ball. Catches the ball well with his hands and will high point it. Makes the difficult catch. Gives good effort blocking. Reminds me a lot of Larry Fitzgerald. He is an elite player who will step in and be a difference maker from day one. Tori Gurley South Carolina Has really good size. Really came on as the season came to an end. Has a little quickness for his size but lacks great speed. Has really good hands and has a good frame to box out defender. Has the look of a good possession receiver who could develop into something a little more. Needs to play with better leverage and strength. Gets knocked off of routes and struggles to maintain blocks. Doesn't always get good separation. Was a surprise early entry into the draft and is young. Jamel Hamler Fresno St Has decent size. Was really productive this past season but I was surprised that he declared for the draft. Is decent in and out of his breaks but doesn't have great speed. Caught the ball well. Looks more like a possession type receiver. Was a little overwhelmed at the combine. Leonard Hankerson Miami (Fla) Looks the part. Has really good combination of size and athletic ability. Has a good frame and does a good job shielding defender from the ball. Has good strength and can get to the inside. Has size and athleticism to go up and get the ball. Has enough speed to stretch the field. Can take the ball the distance and gets good yards after catch. Has really good hands. Is big and strong and is a good blocker. Has the whole package and can be a #1 receiver. The only thing that slows him down is himself. Must play with better concentration. Drops way too many passes but it is not hands related, it is concentration related. Doesn't always play with a high level of effort. Every now and then he will play down to the competition. Has the potential to be great, just needs to be more consistent. Likely will hear his name in the second round. Dwayne Harris East Carolina Thickly built WR. Has really good acceleration. Has a really thick and strong lower body and is able to break a lot of tackles. Gets yards after the catch and is a good kickoff return guy. Has decent speed and catches the ball well. Will need to work on route running and creating separation. Good possession type receiver who could develop into more. Competes and will likely contribute on special teams while he develops. Marcus Harris Murray St Has decent height but could use a little more bulk. Was his team's go to guy. Has good speed and athleticism. Catches the ball well. Dominated his level of competition but is making a big jump in competition. Needs to get stronger and could struggle with his release on the next level. Gets good separation on this level but might struggle on the next level. Has good ability and will likely get a chance as an undrafted guy. Vidal Hazelton Cincinnati Has really good size. Has hardly played football the past three years after a breakout year in 2007. Was hampered with injuries in 2008. Sat out 2009 after transferring from USC and missed this past season with a knee injury. When actually playing he was a good physical, possession type receiver. Doesn't have great speed but has a little quickness. Has good hands and shields the defender from the ball well. Has some ability but will have to prove that he is healthy. Jamere Holland Lindenwood Transferred from Oregon after being dismissed for a comment on facebook. Has average size. Has good athletic ability and speed. Has a lot of make you miss ability. Does a little too much dancing rather than getting the ball up the field. He gets away with it on this level but won't on the next level. Comes across as rather cocky. Doesn't have natural hands and does a lot of body catching. Is an average to below average route runner. Could be a developmental type because of his athleticism. |
