Scouting Reports- MLB

A-H / I-P / Q-Z

Nick Reveiz                                                                                                                                  Tennessee

Is a little undersized and lacks athleticism.  Former walk-on who really lacks ideal physical ability for the next level but has been highly productive.  Has really good instincts and recognition.  Makes a ton of tackles.  Is typically in the right position.  Doesn't have good speed or quickness and lacks ideal bulk.  Could be a solid special teams player.  Also worked out at FB for scouts.  Doesn't look the part and won't get drafted but the type of player that will be really hard to cut once he gets into camp.

Taylor Sedillo                                                                                                                                 Weber St

A little short and lacks speed.  Can be engulfed at the point of attack.  Is a little stiff and struggles in pass coverage.  Active player who plays with a chip on his shoulder.  Doesn't back down and will make a bunch of tackles in the box.  Might lack the ability needed for the next level but could get a look as a backup player if he can contribute on special teams.

Kelvin Sheppard                                                                                                                                     LSU

Has decent speed and really good athleticism.  Runs well.  Is a smart player who shows good leadership abilities.  Is a sure tackler and is around the ball a lot.  Is aggressive and can bite on play fakes.  Struggles taking on blocks.  Isn't overly physical and lacks strength to disengage quickly.  Needs to get off blocks better to stay inside.  Has the athletic ability to move to OLB but doesn't have a lot of experience out there.  Physically, would make a good special teams player.  Has the ability to be a starter in the NFL just needs to shed blocks better.

Derrell Smith                                                                                                                                  Syracuse

Has decent size and good toughness.  Can stuff blockers at the line but doesn't do a real good job of disengaging.  Is hesitant in his play, lacking great instincts.  Is stiff and at times will struggle to tackle in the open field.  Struggles in coverage because he struggles to change direction and is slow to react.  Tough player in the box but might struggle due to marginal athleticism and instincts.  Missed two games in 2009 with a torn meniscus and wasn't able to fully work out at the combine because he recently had surgery on the same knee.

Justin Springer                                                                                                                                  Kansas

Has good size and strength.  Not overly athletic and really lacks speed.  Has some flexibility.  Inconsistent instincts.  At times is a little hesitant in the hole taking on the blocker which causes him to get sealed inside.  Good tackler.  Missed time in 2008 with a leg injury.  Good college player who might lack the athletic ability needed but is worth a look as an undrafted guy.

Culmer St. Jean                                                                                                                            Wisconsin

Is a little undersized.  Runs well in a straight line.  Is a little stiff and lacks quick twitch ability.  Has good understanding of pass coverage and has good hands for the INT but his stiffness makes him struggle out in space.  Lacks bulk and struggles a little at the point of attack.  At times will try to go around blockers because he struggles to stuff and shed.  Is a decent tackler but has limited range.  Has some special teams experience.  Good college player who might lack the size and flexibility needed for him to succeed on the next level.

Quan Sturdivant                                                                                                                    North Carolina

Has decent size and good speed.  Has been productive for a number of years.  Has experience at OLB and MLB and could play either on the next level.  Is aggressive and flows to the ball really well.  Is a really solid tackler and is always around the ball.  At times will struggle to disengage with blockers.  That will be one of the main things he will need to improve upon if he ends up playing inside, which is his best position.  Has a good feel for pass coverage and has good hands for the INT.  More of a zone guy versus a man to man guy, which is the area he will really need to work on if he moves outside.  Solid prospect who will be a good player on the next level and has some versatility.  Was arrested last year for marijuana possession and struggled through a hamstring injury most of this past season.  Both issues will need to be looked at.

Jeff Tarpinian                                                                                                                                         Iowa

Has decent size.  Put up some good numbers at his pro day but doesn't really play to those numbers.  Is a little stiff and not overly athletic but isn't horrible.  Makes some plays but struggles a little in coverage.  Limited athlete who was a good college player but has marginal ability for the NFL.

Chris White                                                                                                                             Mississippi St

Has good size and instincts.  Reads the play quickly.  Does a real good job taking on and shedding blockers.  Is a solid tackler.  Does a real good job making plays inside out.  Is a physical player and is really productive.  Played OLB the previous season but is much better inside.  Contributes on special teams.  Has decent speed but lacks great speed.  Will struggle to make plays sideline to sideline.  Isn't bad but is a little stiff and struggles a little in coverage.  Has limited upside but is a solid player in the middle.

Nate Williams                                                                                                                          Northwestern

Has marginal size.  Really lacks athletic ability and speed.  Has really good instincts and make a ton of plays.  Is always around the ball and is a solid tackler.  Plays with a chip on his shoulder.  Can struggle to get off blocks and lacks athleticism to contribute in coverage.  Really lacks physical attributes but was really productive.

Alex Wujciak                                                                                                                                 Maryland

Is big and strong.  Is a load in the middle.  Takes on blockers and fights through their block.  Has good instincts and is a good tackler.  Really lacks some speed.  Struggles to get sideline to sideline.  Is a little stiff and struggles in coverage and in the open field.  In the box type who could surprise.  Missed 2007 due to knee injury.

Marcus Yarbrough                                                                                                                   San Diego St

A little undersized but moves well.  Runs well and has decent athleticism.  Makes plays but needs to do a better job taking on blockers.  Will stop and take on the block rather than taking on block on the move.  Has a good nose for the ball.  Missed some time this past season due to a foot injury.  Might lack the overall ability needed but is worth a look.
