Scouting Reports- G

A-H / I-P / Q-Z

Benjamin Ijalana                                                                                                                            Villanova

Played LT and could get a look out there.  Has good size and long arms.  Doesn't have great feet and struggles some laterally which is why I feel he will be a better G than T.  Runs well straight ahead and has some in the box forward quickness.  Good athletic ability.  Isn't real consistent in his play but at times can be dominant.  Has good strength and when he plays with good bend and leverage he can really drive the defender and rack up the pancakes.  Has a tendency to play high and isn't overly aggressive or physical.  Has some hesitation in his play which will get him out of position and make him a step slow.  Is not quite as good as small school OL last year Vladimir Ducasse but is similar.  Didn't have a chance to work out for scouts due to a sports hernia.  Has potential but will need some time to adjust to the jump in competition and to become more consistent.

Pat Illig                                                                                                                                             Wofford

Has good size but skinny arms.  Is a decent run blocker when there is a defender straight in front of him.  Doesn't block well at all when on the move.  Is a little stiff and doesn't have great feet.  Is not a good chop blocker.  Wofford didn't pass a lot so he doesn't have a lot of experience in that area but was average when they did pass.  Really needs a lot of work, all the way to lining up.  He often telegraphs where he is going to go and lines up a half step back when he is going to pull.  Will require a lot of work but he battles and has decent size, so he might get a shot.

Byron Isom                                                                                                                                        Auburn

Has marginal size and could really use some more bulk.  Is a little stiff but will battle.  Decent job pulling.  Little limited athletically.  Decent college player who might not have the ability needed for the next level.  Missed the last few games in 2009 due to a suspension.

Andrew Jackson                                                                                                                             Fresno St

Has some height but lacks bulk.  High effort player who will battle.  Plays with decent technique but will struggle due to his lack of bulk.  Really struggles to get any movement in the run game or anchor in pass protection.  Typically gets bounced back a yard or so off the snap regardless the situation.  Will probably get a look but will need a lot of time to add bulk before he could even be considered for a roster spot.

Carl Johnson                                                                                                                                      Florida

Mountain of a man.  Has good athletic ability for his size.  Has good strength.  Could benefit from losing a little weight.  Can be a dominant player when motivated.  Often isn't motivated and does a lot of standing around, plays pretty soft and doesn't play through the whistle.  Has the potential to be an NFL player but will have to show some motivation.

D.J. Jones                                                                                                                                      Nebraska

Played T and might still get a look there but has slow feet and looks like a better fit inside.  Has some power and plays with decent knee bend.  Gives good effort but has marginal ability.

C.E. Kaiser                                                                                                                                        Oregon

Has some experience at T but has marginal feet even for G.  Really struggles to readjust in pass protection.  Is stiff and is a waist bender.  Lacks some bulk and strength.  Is more of a get in your way type blocker.  Plays too high and spends a lot of time on the ground.  Really isn't much of a prospect.

Zack Kendall                                                                                                                                 Kansas St

Decent college player who plays with good knee bend but really lacks athletic ability.  Is undersized but battles.  Will have some decent blocks both in pass protection and in the run game but isn't consistent and really lacks the athletic ability to make it on the next level.

Daniel Kilgore                                                                                                                       Appalachian St

Played T but lacks size and athleticism needed to stay there.  Has short arms and lacks bulk.  Is not really a knee bender and struggles some laterally, so he is a better fit inside.  Still lacks bulk but is a battler who was highly successful on his level.  Runs ok in a straight line.  Doesn't always play with the best angles.  Really lacks ideal size, will be making a jump in competition and isn't the greatest athlete but might still get a chance because he is such a battler.

Jarriel King                                                                                                                           South Carolina

Tall and long player who has decent athleticism.  Played a lot of T but has some experience at G.  Doesn't really have the lateral quickness to stay at T but could provide some versatility in a pinch.  Has some quickness off the snap and can get to the second level.  Plays with good knee bend and flexibility.  Will battle to maintain block.  Team was much better when he was in the lineup.  Lacks power in the lower body and struggles to much movement when run blocking.  Also struggles to anchor in pass protection.  Does a good job readjusting to secondary moves in pass production.  Might be a medical concern because he has had two minor operations due to an irregular heartbeat in the last couple of years.  Has potential to be a solid backup who could develop into starter down the road but will need time to get stronger and will have to check out medically.  Might get a look late in the draft but more likely will be an undrafted free agent.

Jamal Lewis                                                                                                                                    Hampton

Has decent size.  Has some athletic ability but has a tendency to play a little high.  Is a little inconsistent but every now and then will look dominating.  Will be making a big jump in competition and isn't an elite athlete or show much consistency so he might not get a shot.

Colin Madison                                                                                                                                   Temple

Big man who has good strength.  Is a mauler in the middle.  Is physical and gets some push in the run game.  Lacks athleticism and has a tendency to play a little high.  Struggles to move and can't get to the second level.  Struggles in pass protection because he has slow feet.  Really struggles to his inside.  Sometimes seems to tire and will spend some time on the ground.  Figures to get a chance because he is such a good in the box run blocker but he will really have to improve the rest of his game to make it.

James McGillicuddy                                                                                                                        Stanford

Did not start on the offensive line but was often brought in as an extra blocking TE.  Has good athletic ability and can run a little.  Doesn't have ideal frame for T but has good size for G.  Was not able to beat out other players who are marginal pro prospects.  To his credit he is a former DL who didn't move over to OL until two seasons ago.  Has been relatively healthy these past two seasons but was injury prone before that having two torn patellar tendon surgeries and a fractured pubic bone.  Due to being older, a medical risk and lacking starting experience he might not get a shot but he has some athletic ability.

Anthony McNac                                                                                                                                   UTEP

Has good size and some athleticism but isn't a good blocker.  Isn't real productive and draws a number of penalties.  Not much of a prospect.

John Moffitt                                                                                                                                  Wisconsin

Has really good size and strength.  At times is a dominant run blocker.  Moves fairly well for someone his size.  Can get to the second level and at times really engulfs LBs.  Cleared some huge holes for the RBs to run through.  Can pull and will make blocks downfield.  Anchors fairly well in pass protection but only has average feet and can struggle with quick DL.  Has experience at C and could help there but lacks quickness for there and is a better prospect at G.  Type of player that doesn't necessarily wows scouts but will be a solid pro that will help his team win.

Anthony Morgan                                                                                                                      Oklahoma St

Has good size.  Has average overall ability.  Decent college player who may lack the ability needed for the next level.

Greg Niland                                                                                                                          Massachusetts

Transferred from Northeastern after they eliminated their program.  Has a good frame but lacks bulk.  Moves well and can run and pull.  Does a decent job turning the defender.  Is not overly big and doesn't get much movement in his blocks but he battles.  Does a decent job anchoring in pass protection.  Will be making a big jump in competition.  Isn't elite at anything but could get a look as a developmental guy.

Corey O'Daniel                                                                                                                     Gardner-Webb

Large man who played T but isn't a good enough pass protector to stay there.  Was a dominate run blocker on his level because he had a lot more strength than the competition.  Has decent flexibility and knee bend.  Moves ok for someone his size.  Really struggles in pass protection even on this level.  Despite size, he struggles to anchor and often lets the defender run free.  Really doesn't have a feel for pass protection at all.  Developmental type who is making a jump in competition.  Has potential as a run blocker but might have too far to go as a pass protector to make it.

Alan Pelc                                                                                                                               North Carolina

Has good size.  Battles and gives good effort.  Struggles to anchor at times.  Has some experience at C.  Has good strength and can get some movement straight ahead.  Limited athletically and struggles some in space.  Will be attractive as an undrafted free agent for a team that runs a straight ahead blocking scheme.

Andrew Phillips                                                                                                                                Stanford

Decent college player who is a little limited athletically.  Gives good effort but doesn't move that well.  Has slow feet and struggles to readjust.  Does a decent job run blocking but might not be special enough for the next level.
