Scouting Reports- FB

Moncell Allen                                                                                                                                Kentucky

Is short and wide but has pretty good athletic ability.  Runs hard and has a little wiggle for a FB.  Blocking is inconsistent partially due to his lack of size and partially due to the fact that he doesn't always keep his feet when he blocks.  Might get a chance to go to a camp but with the lack of demand for FBs the chances are slim.

Shaun Chapas                                                                                                                                   Georgia

Good combination of size and athletic ability.  Despite his size, he is only an average blocker.  He doesn't always finish blocks and sometimes he leaves his feet.  Has decent hands but will drop some passes because he doesn't always watch the ball into his hands.  Didn't get a lot of opportunities to run the ball but is pretty effective when he does.  Contributes on special teams.  Looks the part and is likely a late round draft pick.

Charles Clay                                                                                                                                         Tulsa

Really good athlete who is kind of a tweener.  Has decent size and strength but isn't a real good blocker.  Doesn't have enough speed to move to RB but has some value as a power, short yardage RB because he has good vision and strength.  Might get a look at TE as well because he has good hands and has the ability to stretch the middle of the field.  Will drop a number of balls though because of a lack of concentration.  Might not be a perfect fit at any spot but could be a player who fills many different roles.

Kevin Cooper                                                                                                                               Tennessee

Has good size and athletic ability.  Never really developed into the dominant FB everyone imagined.  Inconsistent blocker.  Inconsistent receiver.  Didn't really make much of an impact in his college career but he has some potential.

Preston Dial                                                                                                                                     Alabama

Has good size and some versatility.  Lined up at both TE and FB.  Is a little undersized for TE.  Is a really good blocker.  Is really athletic and flexible which helps him as a blocker and receiver.  Catches the ball well and runs decent routes.  Can be a factor in the pass game.  Not a player that has gotten a lot of fanfare but is a really solid player who can help a team in a number of ways.  Has a chance to get selected late in the draft but either way he will get a shot.

Patrick DiMarco                                                                                                                   South Carolina

Tough guy who has good size.  Is a pretty solid blocker.  Really lacks speed and doesn't offer anything as a runner.  Not much of a receiver but can catch the ball right to him.  Decent blocker but may struggle to make it due to his lack of athletic ability.

Zac Eldridge                                                                                                                                   Weber St

Has decent size and runs ok.  Is an average receiver.  Inconsistent blocker who looks good at times but at other times he will miss a lot of blocks.  You wish that there was something that he was great at, rather than being average at everything.

Connor Flahive                                                                                                                   Northern Illinois

Backup FB who was used a number of different ways.  Lacks size to be looked at as anything else but FB and he has marginal size for that.  Good effort and battles.  Lacks athletic ability which makes him and inconsistent blocker.  Try hard player who probably doesn't have enough ability to make it on the next level.

Kevin Gidrey                                                                                                                           South Florida

Played mostly TE but looks more like a FB.  Has some experience at FB when they would go with a full backfield.  Has some quickness and runs well.  Has soft hands and can be a factor in the pass game.  Is a projection as a blocker but did a decent job blocking in space from the TE position.  Has some intriguing skills but is a developmental type who isn't elite and not many teams are looking for a developmental FB.

Ben Guidugli                                                                                                                                  Cincinnati

Played TE but lacks the size needed to stay there.  Good effort player.  Runs ok but not great.  Is a little inconsistent catching the ball.  Limited athlete who might not be athletic enough.

Patrick Hanrahan                                                                                                                   Mississippi St

Has good size.  Really good blocker.  Doesn't bury people but gets good position and sticks to blocks.  Active part of the team's game plan.  Catches the ball well and catches it with his hands.  Has decent speed for his size and runs with the ball ok.  Contributes on special teams.  Won't get drafted but has a chance to sneak onto a roster.

Stanley Havili                                                                                                                                         USC

Really athletic FB.  Is not real big but is big enough.  Runs really well and has really good hands.  Style is a little different but his production and the way you can use him is very similar to Larry Centers.  Like Centers, he can be really dangerous in the open field.  He can be used as a short yardage back because he has decent vision, runs hard and is difficult to bring down.  Is not real big but is an efficient blocker.  His blocking is a little underrated.  Special player who can provide a team with an extra weapon to play with.  Figures to get drafted somewhere in the middle rounds.

Patrick Hill                                                                                                                                 Miami (Fla)

Very short and wide.  Effective blocking straight ahead and shows some nastiness from time to time.  Because he is so big he struggles to readjust and whiffs on a number of blocks.  Not a good pass protector due to lack of athletic ability.  Doesn't catch the ball or get any opportunities to run the ball.

Jon Hoese                                                                                                                                    Minnesota

Tough, throwback type players.  Has decent size but not great size.  Is really physical and strong and will stick his nose in there.  Doesn't get a lot of movement out of his blocks due to his lack of size but he battles.  Do not believe that he has ever had a run for negative yards.  Runs hard but is basically a straight ahead runner.  Catches the ball pretty well but is a limited athlete.  Probably doesn't have the athletic ability to make it in the NFL but he will battle.

Robert Hughes                                                                                                                          Notre Dame

Big RB who has some decent running skills.  Good athlete and shows some make you miss ability with cutting abilities and a nice spin move.  Lacks explosiveness to stay at RB but could have some value as a short yardage back.  Runs with power and is physical.  Not much experience as a blocker but has good size and seems to have the right temperament.  Has done a decent job in pass protection.  Catches the ball well.  Has really looked good when he has gotten an opportunity, the problem is that he hasn't gotten a lot of opportunites.  For whatever reason they were very hesitant to play him.  Most likely won't get drafted but would be an interesting player to bring to camp.

Henry Hynoski                                                                                                                              Pittsburgh

Really big FB.  Is really fluid and has really good athletic ability for someone so big.  He is a solid blocker but is not always dominant like you would expect.  When he isn't dominant it is usual as result of him playing too high.  Lacks speed and elusiveness to offer much as a runner although he can be hard to bring down due to his size and strength.  Doesn't show a whole lot in the pass game.  Mostly a blocker who can help on special teams.  Likely will be a mid to late round draft pick.

Ryan Mahaffey                                                                                                                     Northern Iowa

Played TE but lacks the size and strength needed to stay there.  They did move him around a bit so he has some experience in the backfield.  Is physical and will battle.  Really lacks athleticism.  Has decent hands but struggles to adjust to the ball because he is really stiff.  Stiffness also causes him to struggle to readjust when blocking.  Limited athlete who might lack athletic ability for the NFL.

Owen Marecic                                                                                                                                 Stanford

Really good all-around football player.  Has really good size.  Played both FB and LB this past season and could get a look at either position.  Is good enough at both positions that he could serve as a starting FB and a backup LB.  As a LB he lacks some speed but has decent instincts despite not playing there much.  As a FB, he is a dominating blocker.  He is the best blocking FB in the draft, not just sealing the hole but he moves defenders out of the play.  Has really good leg explosion which not only helps with his blocking but also helps make him an effective short yard or goal line RB.  Catches the ball alright but is a little stiff.  Has a special teams personality and figures to contribute in that capacity as well.  Really solid football player who is smart enough and talented enough to step right in as a starter.  Figures to be a mid round draft pick.

James McCluskey                                                                                                               Boston College

Has good size.  Isn't overly fast and is a little stiff.  Inconsistent as a blocker.  Has a special teams mentality.  Solid college player who probably doesn't have enough ability to make it on the next level.

Johdrick Morris                                                                                                                    Southern Miss

Productive college player who really doesn't have a pro position.  Played TE but doesn't have the size to stay there.  They often split him out as a WR but doesn't have enough speed to stay out there.  Really isn't a good blocker at all, he is a poor blocker for a WR not alone a TE or FB.  What he does do well is catch the ball.  Could get a look as a gadget player but the chances of that are slim due to his deficiencies.

Brett Morse                                                                                                                                           Iowa

Solid player who is a little underrated.  Has decent size.  Really good blocker who quietly goes about his business.  Didn't get a ton of opportunities but caught the ball well when he did.  Isn't real fast but runs hard and is relatively productive.  Not likely to get drafted but is the type of player that you invite to camp and have a hard time cutting him.

Mark Moundrous                                                                                                                          Michigan

Played FB early in his career but moved to LB this past season.  As a LB he struggles to get off blocks and lacks speed.  He isn't much of a prospect at LB.  Physically is a better fit at FB.  Has good toughness and contributes on special teams.  Isn't real special as a runner or receiver.  Try hard player who has some versatility but lacks ability.

Fred Munzenmaier                                                                                                                           Georgia

Backed up Shaun Chapas at Georgia.  Has good size and is a decent athlete.  Is a little stiff in the hips.  Struggles to readjust when blocking and at times struggles blocking in open space.  Inconsistent hands.  Contributes on special teams.  Has some ability but is still a long shot.

Vince Pascoe                                                                                                                                  Fresno St

TE who lacks the size to stay there.  Is a willing blocker but doesn't always do a good job sticking to blocks.  Struggles because he lacks athletic ability.  Inconsistent catching the ball.  Decent college player who lacks the ability for the next level.

Zac Pauga                                                                                                                                   Colorado St

Has good size.  Is not an elite blocker but is decent.  Isn't overly fast or shifty but is a physical runner.  Average receiver.  Good college FB who might not be special enough for the next level.

Dean Rogers                                                                                                                                 UC-Davis

Played TE but really looks more like a FB.  Is aggressive and likes to finish blocks.  Was highly productive on his level.  Has good temperament and could contribute on special teams.  Catches ball well.  Lacks speed and is a little stiff.  Often used him at RB in goal line situations and was productive in that capacity.  Making a big jump in competition but has some ability.

Anthony Sherman                                                                                                                       Connecticut

Tough player with good size.  Is really physical.  Is not as consistent as a blocker as you would like.  At times is a good blocker and at times will whiff.  Has surprising athleticism and catches the ball well.  He is a solid FB but the thing that might keep him on a roster is the fact that he is a really good special teams player.

Marcus Sims                                                                                                                         North Alabama

Transfer from Florida St.  Is kind of a tweener.  Plays the game more like a RB but lacks the speed and elusiveness to play there.  Catches the ball well.  Has the size to play FB but isn't overly physical and isn't much of a blocker.  Has good ability but might not be a good fit for any position at the next level.

Kyle Skarb                                                                                                                          Northern Illinois

Undersized throwback.  Is physical and does a decent job blocking.  Catches the ball ok but lacks athletic ability.  Is not overly fast and is a little stiff.  Plays hard but might not be athletic enough for the next level.

Van Stumon                                                                                                                                    Arkansas

Has good size and is physical.  Is a pretty solid blocker.  Catches the ball ok but isn't overly fast or flexible.  Contributes on special teams.  Marginal ability who will really have to show something on special teams to make it.

Vai Tafuna                                                                                                                                      Weber St

Big RB who is stiff and lacks the ability to stay at RB.  Is a straight ahead runner who can move a pile.  Lacks speed and make you miss ability.  Catches the ball well.  Doesn't have experience as a blocker but doesn't mind being physical.

Jared Tew                                                                                                                                       Air Force

Tough player who is really undersized for FB.  Doesn't have the athletic ability to move to RB.  Runs hard and catches the ball ok.  Doesn't figure to be much of a blocker.  Good college player who lacks the athleticism needed for the next level.

Ryan Travis                                                                                                                         West Liberty St

Listed as a TE but in reality was a slot WR.  Doesn't have speed or agility to stay out there and lacks bulk to move to TE.  Really dominated his level of competition.  Was a man amongst buys.  Has average speed but has pretty good athleticism.  Catches the ball really well and has a good understanding of routes.  Blocking is a big question mark.  He really isn't all that physical.  Will be making a huge jump in competition.

Bryant Ward                                                                                                                             Oklahoma St

Underrated player with good size.  Doesn't always get to play a lot because they run a lot of one back sets.  When he does get in he does a really good job as a blocker.  Is really physical and gives good effort.  Is really natural catching the ball and can get some positive yards after the catch.  Better athlete than you would think.  Not likely to get drafted but will be hard to cut once he gets to camp.

Kenny Younger                                                                                                                        Virginia Tech

Has decent size and good straight ahead speed.  Is a little stiff and isn't used as a receiver at all.  Isn't the greatest blocker but every now and then will have a good block.  Never elevated his game like anticipated and doesn't seem like much of a prospect.
