Scouting Reports- C
Matt Allen Texas A&M Is a little undersized. Has a little bit of foot quickness but other than that is a limited athlete. Typically has decent positioning but doesn't get much movement and struggles at times to anchor. Sometimes can get knocked off his feet. Battles and has a little nastiness but might lack the athleticism needed. Howard Barbieri Rutgers Has good size and gives good effort. Also has experience at G but C is the best position for him. Struggles some with shotgun snaps. Is a limited athlete who is stiff and tends to be a waist bender. Really struggles to anchor against the pass and run. Versatile college performer who lacks that athletic ability needed for the next level. Tim Barnes Missouri Has good size and plays with decent knee bend. Has decent athleticism and is pretty effective. At times they asked him to kick out and block the end in pass protection. Does a decent job getting to the second level and getting out in front of screen passes. At times he struggles to anchor. If he can increase his strength and do a better job anchoring in pass protection he could have a long career. Ryan Bartholomew Syracuse Has good size. Has played some G but looks like he has short arms and is a little undersized for G. Has good athletic ability but it doesn't translate into his play. Despite his athleticism he doesn't always move his feet. Has good strength and is physical but doesn't get much movement in his blocks. Will battle to wall off defender. Has ability but at this point is not as good as he should be, so he qualifies as a developmental type. Colin Baxter Arizona Has good size and is athletic. Can get to the second level. Has good quickness and decent feet. Gets good positioning and for the most part does a good job anchoring. Once in a while he will struggle a little with a big guy lined up over his head. Is a battler who will fight to maintain his block. Is really tough. Played half of this past season with a knee injury and still played at a high level. Underrated player who will likely go undrafted but will impress in camp and could develop into a solid starter down the road. Sean Bedford Georgia Tech Undersized with good athleticism. Has some quickness and does a decent job getting to the second level. Fires off the ball well and battles but really struggles to maintain blocks because he is so undersized. Doesn't seem like much of a prospect. Chase Beeler Stanford Has above average athleticism but really lacks bulk. Good effort and smart player. Can get to the second level. Really struggles at times with long armed or quick and strong DTs. Doesn't have the bulk or strength to tie up those type of DTs. Has good intangibles and some athletic ability but his lack of bulk and strength will be a major issue. If he can get stronger he could develop into a backup but even getting to that point will take some time. Joe Bernardi Fresno St Aggressive and nasty player who likes to finish blocks. Is really undersized and doesn't have real long arms. Has good athletic ability and can get to the second level. Gives good effort but at times will struggle to stick to blocks because he lacks size. Is a brawler who at times plays too high. Has the right mentality but might lack the bulk and strength needed for the next level. Taylor Boggs Humboldt St Is a little undersized. Dominated his level of competition. Played in the Cactus Bowl and was really good. Has decent athleticism who plays with good leverage. Does a good job getting in good position and does a good job anchoring in pass protection. Will be making a big jump in competition and lacks ideal size for the next level but he could figure as a good developmental prospect. J.C. Brignone Mississippi St Has good size. Is a battler that will slug it out in the middle of the line. Play pretty hard but at times struggles with quickness. He lacks strength and doesn't have real long arms. Good college player who is a marginal prospect due to his lack of strength. Ian Burks Louisiana- Lafayette Undersized. Moves really well and can run. He lacks bulk and struggles at the point of attack but every now and then he will get under someone's pads and push them out of play. Has some ability but his lack of bulk will keep him from making it on the next level. D.J. Burris Minnesota Has good size. Gives good effort and battles. Doesn't always play with good technique. At times he struggles to anchor. Seems like he has short arms and that he doesn't get much push in his blocking. Really struggles against top competition. Doesn't seem like much of a prospect. Tom Castilaw Arkansas St Is a little undersized. Has good strength and will battle to anchor. Good job positioning and seals off the hole well. Has decent athleticism. Good college C who might be a little undersized for the next level. Brandon Fusco Slippery Rock Small school player with good size. Really dominated his level of competition but struggled a little bit in the Senior Bowl. Has some athleticism and plays with good effort. Struggles to maintain blocks because he doesn't do a good job moving his feet when he is engaged, they tend to stop leaving him overextended and unable to keep block. Can get to the second level but isn't effective because once he gets there he stops his feet and ends up whiffing. At times plays a little high and struggles to anchor. Has some ability but needs some developmental work. Figures to get drafted mid to late rounds because he has good size and movement skills but will take a year or two before he is really ready to contribute. Sampson Genus South Florida Is short and wide. His build kind of reminds me of Chukky Okobi. Has good strength and has natural leverage with his height. Pretty good blocker in the box. Lacks athleticism. Isn't real mobile and struggles if he has to cover a little more ground. Struggles to stick to blocks because of his lack of athleticism. Good college player who might not be special enough for the next level. John Gianninoto UNLV Lacks great size. Played G but has short arms and lacks size to stay there. Is not a good knee bender and doesn't really stand out in any way. Chris Guarnero California Undersized guy who really gives good effort. Will really stick his nose in there. Struggles to anchor in pass protection, maintain blocks and at times will get knocked off his feet due to his lack of bulk. Good temperament but really lacks the bulk need to make it on next level. Jordan Holmes Oregon Has good size. Plays with a wide base. Is not overly athletic but has a good understanding of blocking angles. He doesn't get much push but does a decent job sealing off the hole. Does a decent job anchoring in pass protection. At times struggles with quickness and speed. Good college C who might lack the athleticism needed for the next level but might get a chance. Trask Iosefa San Diego St Short with some bulk. Gives good effort and will battle. Is a little stiff and lacks athletic ability. At times will struggle to maintain block because he lacks athleticism. Doesn't always do a good job anchoring in pass protection. Limited athlete who probably won't get a chance. Jason Kelce Cincinnati Has good height but lacks some bulk. Has some athleticism and can get to the second level. Really struggles in pass protection and due to his lack of bulk he struggles to anchor. Also doesn't get much movement in run blocking. Didn't really dominate lesser competition when they played them. He wasn't overly productive but with his athleticism he might get a chance. Jake Kirkpatrick TCU Has good size and battles. Has good strength and is hard to move. Effective in the box. Limited athlete who doesn't move real well and struggles if he has to block in space. Struggles with quick defenders. Isn't great getting to the second level. Solid college player who is a little limited athletically but could have a chance in the right system. Doug Klopacz Penn St Undersized player who battles. Limited athlete. Really struggled to anchor against bigger players and wasn't athletic enough to stay with quick players. Not much of a prospect. Kevin Kowalski Toledo Has good height but has marginal bulk. Good athlete who moves well. Can get to the second level. Doesn't get much movement and is more of a get in your way type blocker. Really struggles to maintain blocks because he often stops his feet when making contact. Feet issues cause him to do a lot of overextending. Struggles to anchor due to his lack of bulk. Can add more bulk to his frame. Is more of an undrafted free agent type but it wouldn't surprise me at all if a team fell in love with his raw athleticism and drafted him late in the draft. Ben Lamaak Iowa St Has good size and has been moved around the line throughout his career. Really needs to stay at C though. Is tough and battles. Doesn't wow you because he isn't elite at anything but he is above average to average at everything. Was a difference maker in their upset of Texas this past season. Has good quickness to get on blocks and battles to maintain them. Does a good job sealing the hole. Is decent in pass protection and anchors well. Might not get drafted but is a solid player who could also help at G so he might be a good developmental prospect who can help as a backup. Alex Linnenkohl Oregon St Has decent size and is physical and aggressive. Is hard to move in the middle and anchors pretty well. Is limited athletically. Isn't a consistent knee bender and at times struggles with quickness. Decent prospect with limited upside. Ryan McMahon Florida St Undersized but will battle. Has decent quickness and can get to the second level. Plays with good effort but his technique in not consistent. Has enough athleticism to reach and turn defender from time to time. Will struggle to anchor from time to time because of his lack of bulk. Solid college player who would be worth a look. Colin Miller Central Michigan Has decent but not great size. Plays with decent knee bend and technique. Limited athlete who struggles to get to the second level. Has slow feet and doesn't run well. Struggles in pass protection. Doesn't get much push and team struggles to run QB sneaks over him. Decent college player who might get a look but at the end of the day might lack the athletic ability needed to make it. Nick Mitchell Western Michigan Has marginal size but really battles. Average athlete who really works to maintain blocks. Gives up some ground in pass protection but battles to anchor and rarely gets driven all the way back. Might not be special enough but could be worth bringing to camp to see. Russell Nenon Wake Forest Has decent height but has marginal bulk. Struggles to anchor at times and doesn't get a lot of movement. Had shoulder surgery before this past season but has been pretty durable throughout his college career. Decent college player who might not be special enough for the next level. Kristofer O'Dowd USC Didn't develop into the elite prospect I thought he could be but is still a good prospect. Has good size and strength. Is a really aggressive brawler. At times will fire off the ball with good knee bend and will show decent quickness for his size. When he does this he is a dominant blocker. However this is not the norm. Usually plays high, without knee bend. Has strength to control some defenders but will struggle against better DTs. When he plays high he struggles to maintain blocks and anchor against good defenders and isn't as effective as he should be. Lacks speed and struggles to get to the second level or block out in space. Has ability and could develop into a good player on the next level or he could end up disappointing. Figures to hear his name in the middle rounds. Brad Paul Memphis Has marginal bulk. Struggles to anchor in pass protection from time to time but battles. Has average feet. Decent college player who might lack special ability needed for the next level. Nick Piccirillo California (PA) Undersized small school player who plays with a lot of aggression. Moves really well and can get to the second level. Plays with good pad level and at times gets good movement despite his lack of bulk. Sometimes will bounce off defender. Battles and dominated his level of competition. Will be making a big jump in competition and is a little undersized. Has some ability though and could be a good developmental prospect. Paul Pinegar Maryland Versatile player who is tall and skinny. Lacks lower body strength. Plays with decent knee bend and battles. Has decent athletic ability. At times struggles to anchor and at times will get knocked to the ground due to lack of bulk and not always playing with good balance. Has experience at T, G and C but with his lack of bulk he would be best at C. Has experience but has moved around so much that he may not be totally comfortable and developed at one position. Decent college player who may get a look. Mike Pouncey Florida Has good size and really good athletic ability. Has good quickness and really good feet. Pulls and runs really well. Has a little bit of a nasty streak. Played most of his career at G and could still get a look there. Seems like he has shorter arms and might be a better fit at C. Physical player who at times can get good movement in his blocks. Has good strength. Little inconsistent with his technique. At times will stop feet when engaging a defender which leaves him overextending and at times he will play pretty high which leads him to do some bear hugging and possible drawing some holding penalties. Does a pretty good job blocking on the run. Is the twin brother of Maurkice Pouncey and looks similar to him but isn't as good of a football player as he is. Struggled early this past season with snapping the ball. Has the potential and ability to be a solid pro at either the C or G position but might end up being overdrafted due to Maurkice's success. Ryan Pugh Auburn Experienced performer who really lacks bulk. Has some athletic ability and moves well but really struggles due to his lack of bulk. Doesn't get much movement and struggles to anchor. Compounding his lack of bulk is that he lacks good strength and seems to have short arms. Gives good effort and battles. Seems like a marginal prospect but with his experience and relative success in the SEC, he isn't someone to write off. It may take him some time to get bigger and stronger but he could be a decent developmental player. Chad Schofield Marshall Has good size and decent strength. Anchors fairly well in pass protection. Is limited athletically and is better in the box versus on the move. Decent college performer who could get a look. Brad Serini Florida International Has decent size and good athletic ability. Moves well. Can turn a defender. Does a good job picking up blitzers and at times does a good job anchoring in pass protection. Has some ability but his technique is really inconsistent. Not always a good knee bender, poor hand placement and doesn't always play with leverage. Lacks a thick lower body and doesn't show much of a nasty streak. Could be a good developmental type because he has some good raw abilities but needs some time to develop. John Stipek Michigan St Has good size but is limited athletically. Lacks quickness and doesn't move real well. Has a tendency to play high which makes it hard for him to anchor and also causes him to get stuffed at the line of scrimmage too often. Doesn't seem like much of a prospect. Ryan Taylor UCLA Battler who has marginal size. Has average quickness and strength. Gives good effort but at times he struggles to maintain blocks. Decent college player who lacks a special skill. Might not have the ability to make it on the next level but might get a shot. Zane Taylor Utah Has decent size and good mobility. Has a little quickness and does a good job getting his hands on the defender. Doesn't get a lot of movement in his blocks and is more of a positional blocker who does a decent job sealing off the hole. Plays with good knee bend and is a decent pass protector. Every now and then he will struggle to anchor but he will battle to hold his ground. Can get to the second level. Not a dominant blocker but is a solid blocker. Figures to hear his name late in the draft. Beau Warren Virginia Tech Undersized battler who has a lot of experience. Doesn't get a lot of movement and at times will struggle to anchor due to his lack of bulk. Limited athlete who struggles when he has to reach block or slide over to pick up a blitzing LB. Smart and gets good positioning and battles. Son of former NFL TE Don Warren. Marginal prospect who might get a look because he played at a decent level in a major conference and has good bloodlines. Wade Weibert Kansas St Has decent but not great size. Has a good understanding of blocking angles and gives good effort. Doesn't get a lot of movement in his blocks. He lacks quickness to get to the second level. Production is inconsistent. Every now and then will show glimpses of being a good blocker which might get him a look. Zach Williams Washington St Has decent size and gives good effort. Has pretty good athleticism and pulls pretty well. Doesn't play with real good technique. Ends up overextending a lot. Despite having good strength, he really doesn't get much movement in his blocks. Has experience at G, so he shows some versatility. Good developmental type who could develop into a versatile backup if he can improve his technique so that his strength translates into his play. Stefen Wisniewski Penn St Longtime starter at Penn St who has experience at C and G. Will get a look at both positions. Has decent but not elite size. Makes up for it with really good technique. He is a good knee bender and plays with a flat back. Plays with good leverage and decent balance. Sticks to his blocks and drives defenders out of the play. Impressively handles bigger DL fairly well despite being much smaller than them. Has quick hands and holds his ground well. Is smart and is able to pick up blitzers and adjust to stunts. Has the ability to get to the second level and does a good job getting out front on screens. Is highly productive. Father Leo and uncle Steve both played in the NFL. Because he is so technically sound, he can jump into the lineup pretty quickly and eventually develop into a potential pro bowl player at either C or G. Might end up being a steal for someone in the second round. Cameron Zipp Southern Miss Undersized player who really battles but struggles. Doesn't get much movement in his run blocks and struggles to anchor in pass protection. Really lacks the size and strength needed for the next level.
