Round 1 |
| 1 |
 |
Carolina Panthers |
Cam Newton |
QB |
Auburn* |
| I don't think this is the best
decision but I get the feeling that the Panthers might go this
direction. I still believe that the best pick for them is
A.J. Green, but he didn't dominate the combine like anticipated
and it seems that the QB position is too alluring. Newton
seems to be the way they are leaning but this organization is
starting to feel like one that is going down the toilet.
For a more in depth analysis of why I believe that and of this
pick, check out the
Carolina Panther Dilemma on my blog. |
| 2 |
 |
Denver Broncos |
Marcell Dareus |
DT |
Alabama* |
| Broncos are switching back to
4-3 and need an inside presence. Dareus is the top DT in
the draft and is on the rise. |
| 3 |
 |
Buffalo Bills |
Von Miller |
OLB |
Texas A&M |
| The Bills could use some pass
rush help and had the opportunity to work with Miller at the
Senior Bowl, where he was dominant. |
| 4 |
 |
Cincinnati Bengals |
A.J. Green |
WR |
Georgia* |
| It is hard to see what the
Bengals are going to do, especially with the Carson Palmer
standoff. One thing seems evident, the T.Ocho show is over
so they very well might get a big and athletic receiver. |
| 5 |
 |
Arizona Cardinals |
Patrick Peterson |
CB |
LSU* |
| The Cardinals really need OL
help but none worthy of this spot so they get best player
available who will help a struggling secondary. The Cards
could trade for Kevin Kolb which could include a switch of first
round picks or a 2nd round pick but either way Peterson goes in
this spot. |
| 6 |
 |
Cleveland Browns |
Robert Quinn |
DE |
North Carolina* |
| The Browns will likely be
changing to a 4-3 defense and they really need
help pressuring the QB. Quinn has a lot of upside and
Bowers has been sliding due to health concerns. |
| 7 |
 |
San Francisco 49ers |
Blaine Gabbert |
QB |
Missouri* |
| The 49ers really need to get a
legitimate QB and Gabbert could be a good fit. |
| 8 |
 |
Tennessee Titans |
Nick Fairley |
DT |
Auburn* |
| While maybe not the biggest
need, the Titans could use a dominant DT and Fairley is well
worth the risk in this spot. While reaching for a QB is a
possibility, it would be hard to pass a talent like Fairley. |
| 9 |
 |
Dallas Cowboys |
J.J. Watt |
DE |
Wisconsin* |
| The Cowboys really need a T
but they don't historically spend high draft picks on OL and
Smith would be a reach here. Watt fills a need and is the
type of high motor player they like, and he is on the rise.
Amukamara could be a possibility but they are rumored to not be
high on him. There is a high likelihood that they could
trade up or down. |
| 10 |
 |
Washington Redskins |
Jake Locker |
QB |
Washington |
| The Redskins need a QB and
while this may be a little high for Locker, they may worry that
there won't be a guy they like available in the second round.
Making this pick easier is that Locker is a good fit with Mike
Shannahan. |
| 11 |
 |
Houston Texans |
Prince Amukamara |
CB |
Nebraska |
| The Texans are switching to
the 3-4 and need someone opposite Conner Barwin but getting a
top notch CB is too good to pass up, especially when there will
be some OLBs in round 2. |
| 12 |
 |
Minnesota Vikings |
Cameron Jordan |
DE |
California |
| Favre is coming to an end (for
real this time) and Jackson hasn't been overly impressive.
Unfortunately there aren't any QBs still on the board for this
spot. So they fill a need at DE. |
| 13 |
 |
Detroit Lions |
Tyron Smith |
T |
USC* |
| The Lions could really use a
T. Smith is on the rise and might have some versatility
due to playing on the right side in college and having the
athleticism to move over the the left side. |
| 14 |
 |
St. Louis Rams |
Julio Jones |
WR |
Alabama* |
| I am not sure if Julio Jones
will slip all the way to them but he does in this scenario and
the Rams would be ecstatic. This would give them the big,
physical receiver they need for Sam Bradford. |
| 15 |
 |
Miami Dolphins |
Mark Ingram |
RB |
Alabama* |
| The Dolphins are really going
to need a RB and they get lucky that the top RB is still
available. I know this pick seems trendy and there is a
lot of talk of RBs sliding on draft day. When there is a
guy who has the potential to be an elite RB, he doesn't
typically slide past pick 20 and with the teams at 15-20 he
doesn't seem real likely to drop lower than that. |
| 16 |
 |
Jacksonville Jaguars |
Ryan Kerrigan |
DE |
Purdue |
| The Jaguars have struggled to
find an every down DE, Kerrigan is similar to what Aaron Kampman
was in his prime. There are some players rated higher but
the Jaguars have really focused on developed and productive
players in the past few years and haven't been scared to select
them higher than thought. Kerrigan falls into this
category and some of the higher rated prospects on the board are
a little more raw and risky. |
| 17 |
 |
New England Patriots (from
Oakland) |
Aldon Smith |
OLB |
Missouri* |
| The Patriots could use pass
rush help and Smith slides to them at 17. He is a little
raw but has tremendous potential. |
| 18 |
 |
San Diego Chargers |
Muhammed Wilkerson |
DE |
Temple* |
| The Chargers could use help at
DE and Wilkerson has a lot of potential. A.J. Smith likes
to roll the dice with talent. |
| 19 |
 |
New York Giants |
Mike Pouncey |
C/G |
Florida |
| The Giants have struggled on
the OL so they add more competition. Pouncey could help at
C or G. |
| 20 |
 |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers |
Adrian Clayborn |
DE |
Iowa |
| The Bucs need help at DE and
need pass rush help. Clayborn slides due to potential
character issues, having Erb's Palsy and a drop in production
his senior year. The Bucs won't worry about character
issues. As far as the production decline, people need to
go back and see what Iowa demanded of him his senior year.
At this spot in the draft he could be a steal. |
| 21 |
 |
Kansas City Chiefs |
Anthony Castonzo |
T |
Boston College |
| The Chiefs have a couple of
needs but one area of concern is at T. Castonzo has
versatility and can plug right in at RT or could play LT and
move Branden Albert to RT. |
| 22 |
 |
Indianapolis Colts |
Nate Solder |
T |
Colorado |
| The Colts have needed OL help
forever, maybe this is the year they actually get it. Solder is a
little raw but has a lot of upside and he fits what the Colts
look for in OL. |
| 23 |
 |
Philadelphia Eagles |
Jimmy Smith |
CB |
Colorado |
| The Eagles could use some help
at the CB position and take Smith despite being tempted to grab
a massive OL. |
| 24 |
 |
New Orleans Saints |
Da'Quan Bowers |
DE |
Clemson* |
| The Saints need help in
various spots on defense but the overall one thing they need is
help with their pass rush. Bowers slides due to injury
concerns but is worth the risk in this spot. |
| 25 |
 |
Seattle Seahawks |
Ryan Mallett |
QB |
Arkansas* |
| The Seahawks could use a QB of
the future. If you look at Pete Carroll's career, he has
often surrounded himself with big QBs that usually have good
arms. |
| 26 |
 |
Baltimore Ravens |
Cameron Heyward |
DE |
Ohio St |
| With Jimmy Smith off the board
the Ravens turn their attention to a player they reportedly
really like in Heyward. |
| 27 |
 |
Atlanta Falcons |
Akeem Ayers |
OLB |
UCLA* |
| The Falcons could be tempted
by TE Kyle Rudolph but opt to take the best player on the board
who could help them at LB and help their pass rush. |
| 28 |
 |
New England Patriots |
Danny Watkins |
G |
Baylor |
| The Patriots need help on the
OL and Watkins
offers the flexibility the Patriots love, being able to play G
or RT. |
| 29 |
 |
Chicago Bears |
Derek Sherrod |
T |
Mississippi St |
| The Bears need a lot of help
on the OL and Sherrod is the guy they like. |
| 30 |
 |
New York Jets |
Phil Taylor |
NT |
Baylor |
| With the departure of Kris
Jenkins, Taylor will be able to step in and keep the middle of
the DL strong. |
| 31 |
 |
Pittsburgh Steelers |
Aaron Williams |
CB |
Texas* |
| The Steelers could go a number
of different directions. They would love for Pouncey to
still be available and they could look at Danny Watkins at this
spot. In this scenario they land their prototypical CB. |
| 32 |
 |
Green Bay Packers |
Gabe Carimi |
T |
Wisconsin |
| The Packers could really use
some OL help and get lucky that they get to shop local. |
